Diffusion (2013)
Church of the Friendly Ghost presents Diffusion: New and unique sound works, an evening of sonic exploration from some of Austin's most adventurous artists. Using a diverse variety of sound sources, from acoustic music instruments to sound synthesis to field recordings, the artists will create evocative soundscapes that will challenge the ears and imaginations of the listeners. Diffusion is curated by Alex Keller.
Diffusion features performances by Lisa Cameron, who will use multiple amplified snare drums to investigate the resonant frequencies of the theater; Brent Fariss, who will debut a new piece employing sculpted feedback and sine tone clusters; and Rick Reed, who will perform a live electronic soundtrack to a liquid light projection entitled “The Turbulent Atmospheres of Gas Giants”. Diffusion will also feature a sound installation by curator Alex Keller, exploring the entropy created by continuous development in Austin with its sonic artifacts.
The Church of the Friendly Ghost series of concerts is made possible by community patrons, and through a partnership with Salvage Vanguard Theater.
This project is funded and supported in part by the City of Austin through the Economic Growth & Redevelopment Services Office/Cultural Arts Division believing an investment in the Arts is an investment in Austin's future. Visit Austin at NowPlayingAustin.com.
